A total of 75 students took part in the pilot simulation of the People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat) held at Sentra Handayani, located in Cipayung, East Jakarta. On the second day of the trial, Thursday, July 10, 2025, students were introduced to the importance of maintaining a healthy and structured lifestyle.
Teaching the Importance of Healthy Sleep
The Head of Sentra Handayani’s People’s School, Regut Sutrasto, emphasized the value of instilling proper sleep routines in students.
“We are trying to change the habit of children who normally stay awake until 10 or 11 PM. Here, we teach them to sleep by 9 PM. That’s when they should start resting,” Regut explained.
By sleeping earlier, students are able to wake up in time to participate in dawn prayers (Salat Subuh) together at the school’s prayer hall (mushola).
No Phones Allowed : Building Focus and Discipline
To encourage digital discipline, students are not allowed to bring mobile phones during their time at the People’s School.
“Phones are not allowed, even on weekends,” Regut clarified.
If parents need to contact their children (or vice versa), communication will go through the designated guardian mentors (wali asuh), with each mentor responsible for supervising 10 students, especially in religious activities and daily routines.
